Community Contribution #2

On what I believe about digital identity is a way on how you exist in the online world because nowadays, when people wants to search for jobs, they do not just rely in job fairs, or physical job postings in the streets, but now there are platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed and so much more that would have direct job postings where you can just upload your CV, or build a professional profile online so that potential future employers have the convenience to see your experience throughout your education, or previous jobs etc.

But when I was drawing my Visitors and Residents Map, I would set communication platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook the most personal platforms because as I tell my daily life in these 2 platforms, I would not want it to be visible in Institutional settings because colleagues does not mean we’re friends but working partners with mutual benefits and cooperation available to each other. I also find it is important to be aware that colleagues in the workspace may have another identity and they would like to keep it private as well which is fair for their protection, as if that colleague is wary of their work partner’s personal background.

However, if it comes to building a subject profile, I would be more relaxed for Instagram because as there are many people who uses instagram to talk about travel recommendations, or interest to be made public. With a separate account, Instagram would also be a way to connecting with others publicly also due to the mutual benefits, and how your interests match with the person you are connecting with, and with multiple accounts, you have the option to see on who you would consider allowing in your personal circle and upgrading relations because with the current relationship you have with the connected person, it is easier to see if we are a match to be friends, or what other things we have in common etc. It really depends on what interest it is and how do you present it to the public.

Overall, I think that it is good to have multiple profiles in many different settings, including personal and professional because this keeps your digital identity safe, and you are able to control on who is allowed to follow you, and who do you follow for a particular interest or work in common.
