Social Learning Platform Analysis
Platform Choice & Justification
The social media platform that interests me the most is YouTube Studio because as a regular YouTube user, I am familiar on how it is used in daily life, and how users creates video content for multiple purposes for sharing their life interests, demonstrate skills on their strength, and to base own ideas from others as well.
What interests me is that when YouTube started back in 2005, the first video ever uploaded was “Me at the zoo”, uploaded by one of YouTube’s first co-founder, Jawed Karim, it was a starting point of how we create content to share publicly, and how it influenced our daily life today. This video also serves as a blueprint on how we are able to make interactive media more popular and accessible and how it influenced our daily lives because as some people now has a main career as a content creator. YouTube is an essential platform for their daily life because it acts as their primary engine for income, identity, daily structure, and global reach.
Analytical Framework
To analyze on how YouTube works as a social learning platform, it comes in three factors: Engagement, Representation and Action & Expression. When you engage in a social learning platform, one thing to consider when working as a group is to foster collaboration, interdependence, and collective learning because as we are interconnected as a group, our decisions and actions impact on how the PLN collaborates as a team (CAST 2024). For example, when I collaborate with my PLN to make an animated video, one would write the storyboard, another would do the animation and I would do the script and recording, which there could be some negotiations during the development of the film because as part of the project, we need to have clear expectations on where this animation is going to take us. We also have to consider on which audience is targeted, and how are we going to promote our content in YouTube because if our group work gets popular, we may possibly be asked by other groups to have collaboration together since we may have something in common with other groups, and would expand our PLN along with another PLN into one larger circle, which can be a gain for both of the groups. Also, this could be a way to expand mutual support because if one of our group members did not have any ideas, we would connect our group to the collaborating group with the collaboration we have that if our partner group has a group member with an ability we would inspire from, we would prompt each other to guide both group’s expectations in order to get what we would want, so that together, we can achieve our goals and expand the PLN.
Platform Analysis

Apart from the YouTube website and app itself, YouTube also as another platform specially for the behind-the-scenes, which is YouTube Studio. YouTube Studio offers extensive features such as to manage channels, edit videos, view my channel statistics and etc. (Buffer. n.d.). What it also helps YouTube users do is to do some extensive editing and enhancement to their own content in order to make videos to an acceptable standard where one feature I really like is by adding the subtitles to own video because it helps users to follow along the content if the speaker has a strong accent, talks too fast, or if the background audio is noisy. It also improve accessibility because as some users has hearing impairment, by just looking at the subtitle, they understand what the speaker the video is saying by looking at the words. As YouTube initially was only a platform to upload own videos to the public, YouTube has decreased it’s limitations over the years, by removing file limits, upgrading it’s resolutions, and with Google introducing features involving monetization, it transformed into a platform where people can make a profit out of, and has also created job opportunities for many sectors, making it more multi-purpose for the public.
As a content creator in YouTube, I would be aware of:

Views and watch time – In YouTube, many YouTube creators often keep track of their own videos, such as the watch time, interactions, comments, views etc. to measure content performance, satisfy the platform’s recommendation algorithm, and unlock features according to their subscriber count. For example, if I have a large number of views in one of my videos, I would most likely focus on the same subject or similar to maintain the views, and developing the subject further where according to several research, YouTubers can encourage audience engagement through content that interests specific demographics because it is important to be aware for what my audience is most interested in (Zhang 2025, 326).
Representation – It is important to come up with plans and strategies to improve channel statistics, and to connect back to the analytical framework, there are a lot of things to consider for: What content we will produce, the targeted audience and what we can inspire our content from. For example, after producing 3 episodes, there would be a clearer direction on which is more popular because as we have 3 videos to compare, my team and I are able to know on which content has the most attraction. It is like a trial and error process because as more and more content is being produced, we can know the popularity and the demographics because it gives a clearer direction on what me and my team should focus on during the production timeframe.
Reflection and Implications
Overall, what I think about my analysis on YouTube studio is that our content can be managed through a single platform where it is accessible before publishing content because not only YouTube Studio is just managing content, but also a tool to learn on how to become a content creator. Although becoming more accessible, I would also point that there are limitations for video editing because even though there is an editing feature in YouTube Studio, I would say that it could be more streamlined where users can directly make the video in the content creator platform which makes it easier by instead of downloading apps separately, all the tasks can be done in a single platform which saves a lot of time, and with AI on your side, it helps with the small tasks you do and correct mistakes made, similar to Grammarly.
In conclusion, what I think in the future, most video editing apps like CapCut would retire once YouTube adds a permanent feature where you can directly make or edit your own videos because since it could potentially be a single platform, this would make creator’s life much easier because the features they were using in the other apps has finally been introduced in the single platform, so I also hope that in the future, video editing would become much easier!
